Nordiska of Gothenburg, 1950’s
Designer: Birgitta Salenius
Name: Kudde 5676
Original colour: Purple
Orginal product: cushion, circa 40 x 40 cm.
Designed in the late 1950's by Nordiska's Birgitta Salenius, the only embroidered piece we have ever found was in Sweden, a framed picture with the hand written note: "Till mamma, julen 1960" / "To mother, Christmas 1960".
The original pattern instruction sheet that Nordiska would have included with this kit has been lost to time, very few were saved in the archive.
One way these pattern sheets show up is when we reprint old patterns and embroiderers recognise the design, find it in their drawers and let us buy or copy their sheets.
This is how the Nordiska archive grows!
We are not sure if we will ever find the original instructional sheet for Birgitta's wonderfully imaginative Floralina, we really hope we will though.
For November 2021 we have made a large and clear A3 copy of the original Floralina drawing in the archive, from here you can follow the stitches and shades.
Our linen is hand printed in Sweden on a 50 x 50 cm panel.
A stitch card which describes the 24 common stitches used by Nordiska is also included.
This embroidery kit requires improvising with lots of interesting stitches, so best suited an adventurous beginner or an experienced embroiderer.
Up to 14 skeins are needed to finish this panel, and we will make Floralina thread sets in Original Purple, Blues and Pastels, availlable from 17/11.
17 colours were used in the original Floralina.
