In May 2024, I travelled to Stockholm to bring home Iris' Shop, a haberdashery started in southern Sweden in the 1950s. Iris was a retailer of Nordiska and many of the products from her old shop are originals embroidered by Nordiska's own team, their embroidery studio who stitched all the colour samples and products that the artist's created.
One of these was this cushion cover, a fine linen in dark brown embroidered with 16 colours.
We have reprinted this pattern onto a 50 x 50 cm panel, a dense linen woven by one of the oldest linen factories in the world.
For The Festival of Quilts, we also made an emerald linen version that is limited edition, and only available here until it's sold out. We have eight of these prints left for you!
If you would like a brown linen, please wait with your order until September when we will produce one in a similar shade to the 50s Nordiska version.
The printed linen panel comes with the same instructions Nordiska had, the archive drawing from 1955, and a photograph of the cushion cover from Iris' shop.
The archive drawing was very large so we made two separate copies left on 200gsm matte uncoated paper which lifts the colours beautifully!
If you like to use the original vintage linen threads that Nordiska had, we have a set HERE. Our thread set with out contemporary linen colours is available HERE.
Enjoy!
