Apple Tree 7414

Nordiska Classic Apple Tree was designed by Ingegerd Hyltén-Cavallius in 1962

This kit includes:

100% linen, hand printed 50 x 50 cm.

16 colours of linen embroidery thread

An instructional sheet

A handy stitch card with Nordiska's 24 basic stitches

A picture of the 1960’s drawing Apple Tree from the Nordiska Archive with a brief history of its origins

A chenille needle size 22.

The large drawing in this kit instructs how to embroider Apple Tree. Nordiska used visual instructions rather than words so that the same pattern could be shipped to UK, USA, Germany and Japan, as well as all over Scandinavia. To continue the true heritage of Nordiska, we include a copy of this chart and encourage improvisation.

As long as you are comfortable with long and short stitch, we believe this kit to be suitable for beginners with just a few basic stitches.

The stitches used in the 60s were: Satin stitch, stem stitch, long and short stitch, chain stitch, split stitch, Y-Stitch and French knots.

Split stitch can be changed into stem stitch or back stitch to make the pattern easier to embroider.

The ink we use for printing is permanent meaning it will not wash off.

Embroider over the lines and don't worry if a little shows through, it's part of the style, and linen always look best if it's unwashed. Please note that the panel will shrink circa 5% if you do wash it. In the 60s, dry cleaning was recommended.
