Empress Theodora was a remarkable historical figure who rose from humble beginnings to become an influential ruler alongside her husband in the Byzantine Empire.
Greta Säfve's Theodora was originally embroidered with lunagarn, a soft cotton thread.
With Birgitta Salenius late 1950s Floralina and Greta Säfve's 1967 Flora, Theodora completes the 50s and 60s series of female portraits within the Nordiska Archive.
